Stitch Marker Madness
August 9th, 2008Yarn Trek
July 23rd, 2008Hubby surprised me with a yarn trek to West Virginia. We ended up in Beckley WV, which has a HOBBY LOBBY! Yeah! First time ever I’ve been to a Hobby Lobby. It was gi-normous! I was a little disappointed by how small the yarn department was compared to everything else they had. They had everything you could imagine for home decoration. But I did find some yarn to bring home.
This is 629/Indian Summer Ombre & 510/Blue Camo in Hobby Lobby’s “I Love This Yarn”. I’m going to make one of my crocheted tote bags with this.
Also got….. (sorry for the fuzzy picture)
These are the 612/Retro Modern ombre & 560/High Sierra Stripe of the “I Love This Yarn”. This is also going to be another crocheted tote bag.
I looked for the new Red Heart Sock yarn and Lion Brand’s Sock Ease, but they hadn’t come in yet – oh well.
There’s also an independent yarn shop in Beckley – Yarn Corner, at 712 Johnstown Road, #D, Beckley. Their phone # is 304-252-1700. It’s a small shop, not even as big as my living room, but it is jam packed and crammed full to the rafters! Here is what I got there –
Art Bright Yarn (lace weight) in metallic blue. I’m planning to make a “Lacewing Shawl” by Shui Kuen Kozinski.
It’s a free pattern at Elann.com.

70’s Crochet
July 18th, 2008There’s a website I like to look at – it’s called ihasahotdog, and today they had this picture.

My friend Vicki has just started a blog of her own, it’s called Moonlight Knitting. Go visit, I’m sure she’d love the company.
I thought my living room was crammed full, but I was wrong. We’ve shoved even more stuff from the dining room/kitchen in there.
You can’t see it, but there’s a piano behind that china cabinet. We have one tiny little path to two chairs, and a view of the TV. Otherwise the living room is now unlivable.
I hope I never have to remodel again.
Another Contest
July 13th, 2008Knitting Giraffe is holding a contest on her blog. Go have a look. The prize is a $25 gift certificate from The Loopy Ewe
We’ve got more tomatoes turning red.
Hopefully these will be ready to eat in another couple of days. Yesterday’s tomato disappeared in today’s lunch salad. It was delicious!
On the remodeling front there’s NOTHING going on. We’re just waiting – waiting – waiting to hear when the work crew is going to show up and start the remodel.
Knit Witch Contest
July 12th, 2008
Knit Witch
is having a contest to celebrate the opening of her new shop – Amia Yarn Company. She’s giving away great prizes.
We have a first tomato turning red!
I counted this morning, and we have 17 tomatos – still green. Can’t wait for them to turn.
Lasagna Wars
July 12th, 2008Or – how do you bake a lasagna when your kitchen is torn up for remodeling?
It ain’t easy, but I found a way to do it!
I lit up the grill, put my BIG soup pot on it, and that took care of cooking the noodles.
Made the meat filling in the slow cooker – although it took ALL DAY!
Had everything spread out over the coffee table/end tables for assembly. (the dogs were banished to the back yard)
Did the “baking” in the microwave. Had to make 3 small pans of lasagna, because the microwave isn’t big enough for my large lasagna pan (besides – that’s metal).
And wouldn’t you know it? Stepson & family that I did all this for didn’t even show up? We’re going to be eating lasagna for a week. But it’s better than the fast food we’ve been having the last several weeks.
I HATE REMODELING!
I won a contest
June 25th, 2008Marnie of Gingersnaps with Tea had a contest on her blog, for a sock yarn prize. She was asking for ideas for using sock yarn for non-sock patterns, and I won! Marnie sent an awesome prize package.
(edited to add – the contest was random draw)
Oh My! Cherry Tree Hill yarn in their Jewels color, a Starbucks card, and milk chocolate and dark chocolate bars. I doesn’t get better than this! But wait! – there’s more! (sorry – I had an infomercial moment) Marnie also included Maple leaf candy, (I’ve already gobbled up one of those) wool soak, soap leaves, a sachet, a sweet, dainty little stitch marker, and NEEDLE TUBES! (I’ve been wanting needle tubes)
THANKS, MARNIE
And guess what? Marnie is also a dachshund lover/owner. How wonderful!
Total Chaos
June 23rd, 2008Finally, after 7 years, we’re starting the kitchen remodel. YEAH!
Here’s a couple of before photos…....North east corner…..
These cabinets look much better in photos than they do in real life. They’re actually so dark, that they look black in person.
Cabinet doors that won’t stay closed, and hubby’s coffee can collection. Orange counters, orange floors, cabinets so narrow that NOTHING fits inside them. ( That corner is inaccessible dead space)
South wall – no cabinets anywhere, we’ve had to use bookcases to have ANY storage at all.
Of course, having to move everything out of the kitchen, means total chaos in the rest of the house. This is what used to be my living room…....
We’ve even stacked stuff down the hallway.
More stuff that has to be moved before the workmen can begin.
I have no idea where we’re going to put the china cabinet, table and chairs…..we may have to rent storage space. Oh well!
WISH ME LUCK
Anyone have any horror stories about remodels?
